Sambhav, the WDC cell at the college,
which has been functioning for the last seven years has
carved out a niche for itself. Ranging from counseling to
awareness building it has been engaged in a plethora of
activities.
As far as the work of counseling is
concerned, the centre mainly deals with in house cases where
students as well as staff members contact the centre to seek
help. But we also get cases from outside. Students of other
colleges or relatives of students studying in the college
come with their problems. We deal with cases where legal
assistance is needed. In such cases, we seek the help of
other women's organisations to facilitate the matter.
The experience of counseling is very
positive. It does not aggravate the case but helps in
reaching an early resolution of the problem. The process of
counseling is also undertaken at an indirect level through
informal discussions. The range of cases comprises
career/study related, friendship related, adjustment
problems with parents and the harassment faced in public
domain.
With the spread of technology,
tele-counseling has also become quite common. Those people
who cannot visit the college for different reasons contact
the counselor/concerned teacher to seek advice. There are
cases of emergency also where people seek help/guidance on
the phone.
The process of awareness building includes taking up
activities centred around gender issues. It involves
debates, discussions, workshops, seminars and different
competitions, and these are held regularly during the year
for the benefit of our students.
