Restructured B.A. Honours in social sciences and
humanities programmes
Concurrent Courses
The Restructured B.A. Honours Programme came into effect from
July 2005. The Programme has replaced the earlier B.A. Honours Programme in
which there were
subsidiary courses. Subsidiary courses are now known as
Concurrent Courses in the restructured B.A. Honours Programme.
They are also known as credit courses.
Note : The status of subsidiaries has been upgraded to
that of concurrent courses and the marks (credits) of the
concurrent courses shall count in the final result of the
student for the purpose of calculating the aggregate percentage
of marks obtained in the B.A. Honours Programme.
Structure of Concurrent Courses
Each student will be required to take two
courses each in the Ist year and IInd year besides the main
subject course. Every student in the first year will also have
to study one qualifying course. (The qualifying course is not a
credit course, but the student is required to obtain at least
the minimum qualifying marks in order to be eligible for
obtaining a Degree in the Honours Course).
Concurrent courses have four components
1.
Language credit course
2.
Qualifying course
3.
Interdisciplinary course
4.
Discipline centered course
NOTE:
(a) In the
first year a student will be required to take up courses under
serial number1, 2 and 3.
(b) In the
second year a student will be required to take two discipline
centered courses from among the various options offered.
(c) Each
credit course carries 50 marks
(annual examination : 38 marks, internal assessment : 12
marks.)
(d) Total
Marks : 200 (for four courses).
(e) The pass
mark for the credit courses is 40 percent.
(f) The
pass mark for the qualifying courses is 36 percent. A student
has to pass in the qualifying course to be eligible for Honours
degree; however, the marks in this course will not be counted in
the final division awarded.

year :
For all Honours courses except literature courses (Hindi/English).

offered under serial no. above

inter-disciplinary course offered by the college as per details

Second Year Concurrent Courses:
The College offers the following Discipline centered
Concurrent Courses to 2nd year Honours students. The students
are required to opt for any two of the courses in disciplines (subjects) other than their
main Honours Course discipline, and provided each of the
course is from a different discipline:

The B.A. Programme
It shall comprise four categories of courses, viz.,
Discipline Courses, Language courses, Foundation Courses and
Application Courses.
(a) Discipline courses are courses that teach the
basics of the disciplines, while at the same time introducing
the student to the recent developments in the field of study.
(b) Language Courses are courses to enhance linguistic
skills and literary sensibilities in students.
(c) Foundation Courses are courses to help the
students learn certain basic things about pursuit of knowledge,
such as economic, social cultural and political environment and
major contemporary concerns.
(d) Application Courses are courses provide practical
skills and additional competencies to better equip the student
and for which students don’t have to go outside the University
system.
Structure :
There shall be a courses over a
three-year period. The twelve courses shall have the following distribution
over the three-year period, with four courses each year :

(iii) History and Buddhist Studies cannot be combined.
(c) In B.A. Programme seats are allocated to Business Data
Processing, Office Management & Secretarial Practice, Buddhist Studies and Maths.
(d)
The medium of instruction is English for all Honours
courses except Hindi (Hons.). The medium of instruction for B.A.
Programme and
B.Com. (Pass) teaching is both Hindi and English.
